We are very keen to promote the training band and recruit new members. Our aims To provide an enjoyable opportunity for introducing the newcomer of any age to music,. Secondly to extend the musical ability and knowledge of developing musicians and thirdly, to encourage people to play and perform music together in ensembles and as a band. Overall we aim that everyone should enjoy themselves in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Opportunities During practices you will be taught to play and read music. If you are a complete beginner we can offer one to one or small group tuition. You will have a chance to try out a range of brass instruments from the band to see which you prefer. You will be able to take your instrument home to practice. In the Spring and Autumn you will have the chance to compete against other musicians in the County at competitions. The training band will be featured during main public concerts throughout the year. Once you become an accomplished player, there will be a position for you in the main band. Finally Musicians of ALL ages are very welcome – we have room for young and old alike. You may have learned an instrument many years ago and would like the opportunity to learn to play again. Some may never have had the opportunity – now’s your chance! Come along and join us on a Thursday evening 6.30pm – 7.30pm at our practice room. What the juniors say Here are some quotes from our youngest members:- Emily – aged 9 “I think the best thing about the training band is the music and also you can make new friends. Sometimes we do competitions with solos and cornets. The Melton Training Band is fun.” Kirsty – aged 10 “You make new friends and get to learn to play a brass instrument. Its fun and sometimes you get to play to the public. You enter competitions and you get to change instruments.” Kaitlin – aged 9 “I like going to the training band because I learn how to play in a group and how to play different pieces of music. I like it when we play in competitions. I also enjoyed it when the training band played with the senior band at the Theatre.” Lucy – aged 10 “I like going to the Melton Band because I can learn how to know the notes on the cornet and learn how to play different tunes. You get to meet new friends as well. When you play well you get a chocolate at the end – so come on down to the training band.” Aisling – aged 10 “I get the chance to make new friends and play as a group. I enjoy it when we play fast music. When I am good enough I will be able to play in the main band. I like getting chocolate at the end.” David – aged 11 I enjoy playing in the training band. I play principal cornet and I play in quartet competitions every year with other members. In the main band I play 3rd Cornet. Caroline our Training Musical Director plays 2nd Cornet in the main band and is the best.” If you are interested in any way or would like to have even more information please email me Caroline Pearson
